trigger out to arpreggio clock in

last night i went to see the Extra Action Marching Band play at the Elbo Room for the 11th annual ‘Black X-Mass’ hosted by Karla LeVey of the First Satanic Church. the event is called ‘black x-mass’ but there were no satanic rites performed other than a few “Hail Satan’s”.
i love Extra Action and try to see them whenever i can. this show was no exception to their usual delightfully decadent performances with pounding percussion, blaring brass and writhing dancers.. although when the dancers began squirting ranch dressing all over themselves things got a little stinky :p
enjoy the pictures!

the show went off fantastically! this was my first show and im very pleased with how it turned out! i didn’t end up with many crowd pictures, but we had a really good turnout! the place was packed for most of the night and i think everyone had a pretty good time! i received many compliments on the work and even sold several pieces! Wyatt Gurp, Cyndi Looper and Sean Julian dj’d providing great music all evening. such a fun time!
the paintings were all done over the last 3 years with several being very recent. they are all acrylic on wood or canvas. the drawings were done with colored markers on paper and mounted on black matte board.
i included some of my circuit bent stuff which people were really intrigued by. i had set them up so that you could try them out, but i should have brought headphones as it got too loud to hear them over the talking and music. the exception to this was my Casio ct680 that i had on a stand with headphones. since they were open for everyone to check out i tried to pick pretty simple stuff that wouldn’t lock up or become unplayable easily. i will follow up on these with some individual posts.
we also created plush character pillows which were a collaboration between myself, Chris A and Shane York.
upstairs in the back there was a merchandise table with t-shirts silk screened by Chris A and buttons i made based on the marker drawings. t-shirts are still available.
thank you so much to everyone who came out and showed their love! many many thanks to all the people who contributed their efforts!! especially Chris A of Self Made Brand, without whom the show wouldn’t of happened, and Ray of Space Gallery for having us!!
time to start working on the next one ![]()
in my neighborhood if someone doesnt want something that’s usable they just put it out on the street. ive gotten lots of great ground scores this way! you can find plenty of speakers, records, books, random electronics, etc. as well as ubiquitous crt monitors.
one day i came upon this rabbit in a big cardboard box full of old clothes and junk..

in SF there are a lot of plastic owls on buildings to scare away pigeons. i wonder if the plastic rabbit is supposed to scare away something as well? perhaps carrots..
i brought it to the park with me and took some pictures. kinda like in the movie amelie, but i was inspired by someone i used to work with who had a yoda keychain that they brought wherever they traveled, and took pictures of it around the world.
